Woody’s Cafe, a new venture by acclaimed local chef Tim Wood, is elevating the poolside experience with a menu that blends casual comfort with culinary craft.
Tucked away within the club’s vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere, the cafe offers a welcome retreat for members. But here’s the inside scoop: you don’t have to be a CVAC member to enjoy it. The cafe is open to the public, offering a hidden gem for anyone seeking a relaxed meal in a picturesque setting.

CHEF TIM Wood, owner of Woody’s at the Airport and Woody’s at Del Mesa, has opened Woody’s café at Carmel Valley Athletic Club. And while the club is open only to members, and its Refuge day spa requires a fee, the café is open to all.
Wood, a CVAC member himself, said management at the club asked him to take over its grill. “I do everything that feels like it’s right or it’s good. In each of these projects, it’s not anything to do with ego or trying to get rich or anything,” he said. “Del Mesa was something I thought I could bring to the valley, and I think we have a fun little hideaway for locals to get a reprieve from the hustle-bustle of our towns. CVAC is the same kind of opportunity...”

Life is about to become a literal three-ring circus for Carmel Valley chef Tim Wood. In addition to running his award-winning restaurant Woody’s at the Airport and the two-year-old Woody’s at Del Mesa, he’s taking over the café at the Carmel Valley Athletic Club starting at the end of this month.
“I looked at it and it felt right,” says Wood, who’s been a CVAC member for about three years.
“When there’s a need and we think it makes sense and can be sustainable, we go for it,” he says.
Wood, currently recharging his batteries in London with his wife, phoned EMB this afternoon from across the pond to explain that he plans to start small with the new operation—which will be open to non-members as well as members.
Wood’s CVAC kitchen will serve an indoor dining space, an outdoor terrace overlooking the tennis courts and offer poolside service. Catering for tournaments and other special events is also in the cards.
